El conocimiento contenido en los cubos de ámbar del Baúl de la Sabiduría es realmente invaluable, por este motivo serán entregados con sumo cuidado!
Los homins que deseen mejorar su conocimiento deben realizar rituales para demostrar que son dignos de dicha recompensa.
Siendo un sabio, soy un iniciador de algunos de estos rituales
“Hace mucho tiempo, seguido de un terrible incendio que había asolado sus bibliotecas, los homins sabios unieron sus ideas para alcanzar un nuevo medio de preservar sus conocimientos, algo más fiable que un manuscrito[1] sometido a la corrupción del tiempo y a la voracidad de las llamas. Así ellos exploraron las propiedades del ámbar: artesanos y magos combinaron sus talentos para moldear cubos de ámbar dentro de los cuales el conocimiento podría ser almacenado mágicamente. Un material más robusto y menos pesado que pergaminos o tabletas, estos cubos tenían la ventaja de ser comprensibles para población entera de los homins gracias a la naturaleza mágica de sus transcripciones. (En esos tiempos, los homíns utilizaban diferentes dialectoso.) Ademas, se descubrió que duplicar un cubo era menos fastidioso que copiar un manuscrito, lo que permitía que el conocimiento se transmitiera más fácilmente.
Así se crearon una gran cantidad de cubos. Pero el Gran Enjambre de los Kitins y el exilio en las Primeras Raíces condujeron a su dispersión. Cubos se perdieron durante la huida de los homins, otros fueron escondidos para ser preservados de la destrucción o de la codicia. Así que mucho conocimiento fue perdido. Desde el inicio de la reconstrucción de su civilización, los homins han estado buscando para recuperar estos antiguos cubos, de los cuales cada uno revelará un fragmento del pasado olvidado
El proceso que permite la creación y la duplicación de los cubos de ámbar es conocido aún por los homins de hoy en dia, a pesar que deben ser unos pocos. Generalmente sólo los iniciados — antiguos, notables y eruditos — tienen el conocimiento necesario, y son ellos quiénes conservan a los cubos. Sin embargo, están dispuestos a compartir el conocimiento contenido en los cubos con aquellos que consideran de confianza : un homin ansioso de aprender recogiendo cubos puede por lo tanto dirigirse a ellos. Los cubos antiguos deben estar desenterrados por todo Atys, sin embargo la mayoría de las veces estos cubos deben ser reactivados por un homin iniciado en el arte. Los cubos mas viejos obviamente son considerados como un tesoro extremadamente valiosos.
Cuando no son conservados en un baúl de ámbar, con el tiempo, los cubos pierden su energía, solo iniciados pueden recargarlos. Hace mucho tiempo, la primera caja fue tallada en ámbar para preservar todos los cubos existentes, no hace falta decir que su tamaño era legendario. Este gran cofre llegó ser conocido como el Baúl de la Sabiduría debido a la cantidad de conocimientos contenidos en los cubos. Los homins deseando poseer cubos tienen su propio baúl de la sabiduría, una réplica mas pequeña del primer gran baúl.
El color de un cubo de ámbar a menudo indica su edad, y por lo tanto puede ser un indicador del valor de la información que contiene. Los cubos amarillos son recientes (no más de unas pocas décadas) y son los más comunes. Los cubos rojos son más antiguos y pueden tener algunos siglos. Los cubos púrpuras son los mas antiguos de todos y por consiguiente los mas buscados de todos.
La mayoría de los cubos también llevan las marcas de los pueblos que los crearon. Por lo tanto, es posible encontrar, a través de los cubos sellos que corresponden a los Matis, Zorais, Fyros o a los Tryker. Algunos cubos, como los de las tribus, a menudo no llevan sello. Los Karavan y los Kami tienen sus propios sistemas misteriosos para registrar su conocimiento, pero por lo general utilizan cubos de ámbar para transmitir el conocimiento a los homíns.
